Hurricane Beryl has strengthened into a Category 3 storm, therefore, a hurricane warning remains in effect for Barbados.

As of 8 a.m. on Sunday, Beryl’s centre was located about 420 miles east-southeast of the island, with maximum sustained winds reaching 115 mph.

Reconnaissance aircraft investigating the storm have detected storm-force winds in the outer bands, which are expected to impact Barbados before midnight on July 1.

The centre of Beryl is forecasted to pass approximately 73 miles south of the island early Monday morning.

Residents are warned of hurricane-force winds and heavy rainfall, with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches likely, raising the risk of flash flooding and severe thunderstorms.

Marine conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly.

The public is urged to stay informed through official sources, including the Barbados Meteorological Service and local media outlets, for further updates on Hurricane Beryl.
