A woman employed as a home help, who is accused of using her elderly charges’ two bank cards to make 97 online transactions, was released on bail when she appeared in the District “A” Traffic Court yesterday.

Lashanna Monisa Bowman’s passport is now in the custody of the court and she was ordered to report to police twice a week as part of her release.
Bowman, 33, a Guyanese who was staying at Howells Cross Road, The Ivy, St Michael, pleaded not guilty to the 97 charges, dated between March 28 and August 3. The transaction amounts ranged from $17.69 to $3 592.05.
She is accused of dishonestly obtaining, from the chequing account in the name of Phyllis Clarke, 87, and her bed-ridden husband Eric Clarke, the sums with the intention of permanently depriving Phyllis Clarke and Eric Clarke by falsely representing that she was in lawful possession of the Republic Bank Visa Debit Cards in their names and that she had lawful authority to use the cards.
