Former Barbados Netball Association (BNA) president Nisha Craigwell has come out in defence of the Bajan Gems taking part in the annual OECS Championship while pointing to the dedication and commitment of the players and coaches she led over ten years.

“Our national netballers and coaches have given yeomen service to the sport for decades. Without their dedication and commitment we could not have made it
thus far.

“One of the many prime examples of that commitment and dedication was shown in 2017 when the Bajan Gems needed to improve our ranking to qualify for Commonwealth Games. A comprehensive plan involving all of the players and officials was put together by my executive.”

Craigwell’s comments come after Northern Ireland made a clean sweep of a three-match Test series, white-washing the Gems 3-0 late last month at the Wildey Gymnasium and follows concerns by the BNA’s president Dr Carmeta Douglin about the commitment of some national players. (KB)
