With less than a month to go in the season at Thistledowns in the United States, Barbadian jockey Rocco Bowen is on course to lift a fifth title on United States soil.

Bowen won the seventh race on Thursday’s card astride Villain to move to 75 wins, level with leading jockey Luis Raul Rivera, who suffered a season-ending injury on August 21.

The duo, who were installed favourites, captured the featured US$75 000 Catlaunch Stakes over 1 700 metres. The three-year-old bay gelding made all the fractions for a three-quarter-length success in one minute, 47.02 seconds.

Bowen is 15 wins clear of his nearest pursuer, jockey Fernando Salazar Becerra.

Ironically, Becerra had fallen from his mount Crossed Up in the same spill which put Rivera out of commission.
