Deploring the 14-year gap between the time a sexual offence against a ten-year-old girl was reported and the time it reached the court, a High Court judge yesterday sentenced Patterson Orlando Ifill to 17 years in jail for the offence.

“The court deplores the fact that this offence was committed since 2008, reported in 2009 and only reached the attention of this court in November 2023,” Justice Wanda Blair said.
“It was committed to the High Court since 2013. Clearly, somebody dropped the ball. Therefore, [Ifill] has to be given a discount for this inordinate delay.”
