Forced to defer its 2025 season from February by two months, the one major New Year’s wish of Barbados Netball Association’s (BNA) president Dr Carmeta Douglin is a completed Netball Stadium.

Douglin says over 2 000 netballers have been affected by the unavailability of the Waterford, St Michael facility where refurbishment work is being undertaken to pave the way for an indoor venue.

“As I prepared my Christmas message to our members, friends and supporters, our main wish was a refurbished Netball Stadium by April 5, 2025. If we want the sport of netball to grow as we have been seeing over the last two years, we need our Netball Stadium back urgently to support our youth,” Douglin told Weekend Sport yesterday.

“Apart from the over 2 000 persons that play netball, we also have four national squads in training. A new development pathway Under-14 squad, an Under-16 squad that has won the Jean Pierre Caribbean Youth Netball Tournament three straight years after COVID and many times prior to COVID,” she noted.
