Although there were teething challenges at some of the Vespera Gardens houses, several residents have settled comfortably into their new homes, part of the Home Ownership Providing Energy Inc. (HOPE) Lancaster, St James project.

When the Weekend Nation visited yesterday, some of the residents were home on Boxing Day and first-time homeowner Jalissa Leacock, who moved to the development in May, shared her excitement.

“I was really excited because I didn’t want to rent. I felt that by 30 if I didn’t get it, it would have been harder for me to obtain one, so I felt really good about this,” the 32-year-old said.

However, she acknowledged that the home was not perfect when she moved in, recalling challenges with her door and windows, which had to be changed, as well as the plumbing.
