Government has been reminded about its promise to construct the Seaview Terminal at Cheapside in the City.

Director of Communications and Public Affairs with the Alliance Owners of Public Transport (AOPT) Mark Haynes gave the reminder Tuesday as he noted that no work had begun at the site.

“Something was to be done long ago. We had a tour and we were told that would have been dealt with expeditiously. As I speak with you nothing has been done, so I hope that the authorities move with alacrity.

“We cannot have commuters and workers in a position where they do not have adequate facilities. If the rain comes, they don’t have a canopy where people can shelter,” he said.

Untenable situation

Haynes added: “It should be deemed a priority for 2025. It is an untenable situation which cannot continue unabated. You cannot have your people exposed to danger one way or the other. I hope that something happens in short order.”

During a visit to Cheapside Tuesday a few operators also recalled that the construction was still highly anticipated.

“If we want to shelter we have to go to the Post Office. There is still no bathroom down here. We heard about the changes, but nothing has happened yet,” one driver who did not want to be identified said.

The Seaview terminal is set to feature a concourse for commuters, offices, a police outpost, shops and bathroom facilities.

Early last year, Government said construction would begin during this financial year.
