Don’t ask Sonia Browne again if she intends to contest the St Philip North seat in the next general election constitutionally due in 2027, because she will not be responding.
What the two-time Member of Parliament intends to do, however, is continue the work in the constituency, trying to respond to the growing number of people who are in need of assistance.
Yesterday, she was again addressing rumours in the social space that her Democratic Labour Party (DLP) opposite – attorney Michael Lashley, the former three-time representative – was being courted by her Barbados Labour Party (BLP) to contest the riding.
The DAILY NATION reached out to BLP general secretary The Most Honourable Senator Jerome Walcott, but there was no response.
Browne said despite the rumours, she remains unfazed and will remain so until she hears otherwise from the party.
“I might read them or hear them as you just read, but it does not resonate with me. I have heard nothing official and until I see something official and concrete, I really don’t give it much thought,” she said.
“It doesn’t occupy more than 30 seconds in a day. So I’m not sure what kind of reaction the public or whoever deemed it fit to put it out there would want from me; but I think they’re all asking the wrong person for reaction.”
Crossing the floor
Browne said the talk was that she was crossing the floor, then she wasn’t; then she was giving trouble, then she was a member of the Opposition. She directed queries to George Street (DLP headquarters) and Roebuck Street (BLP headquarters) on the issue.
