The mechanic, 24, of St Stephen’s Hill, Black Rock, St Michael, pleaded guilty to seven charges before Magistrate Wayne Clarke in the District “E” Magistrates’ Court in Holetown yesterday.
Edwards confessed to possession of 2.28 grammes of marijuana, having no motorcycle licence, the motorcycle was not registered with the Licensing Authority, it was not covered by insurance, it carried neither front nor rear licence plates and when Constable Oshea Kellman asked the rider to produce his driver’s licence or identification card, he did not, all on February 9.
Prosecutor Sergeant Verdon Forde told the court Edwards collided with another motorcycle along Holetown Road. He got up and seemed set to leave the area when a policeman who was nearby saw and approached him. The cannabis was found on him later at the police station.
In his explanation to the court, Edwards said others had invited him to Farley Hill to do some riding on a dirt track there.
For the marijuana, he was fined $750 forthwith, which was paid.
No insurance
Regarding the lack of a valid motorcycle licence, he was fined $1 000 payable in three months, with a similar time in jail as the alternative. He was fined a further $350 in three months for not registering the vehicle and failure to pay will earn him four months in prison.
The absence of third party insurance resulted in a $700 fine payable in three months, or three months in jail.
While he was convicted, reprimanded and discharged for not having a front licence plate, the lack of the rear one ended with a $600 fine to be paid in six months, with six months behind bars as the alternative.
Finally, not having a valid form of identification added $600 more to his total. That too is due in six months or he will face six months at Dodds Prison.
