The St Michael School will reopen for face-to-face classes on Monday, March 24, following a temporary closure due to environmental issues at the plant.

The school was closed on short notice two weeks ago, prompting a shift to online learning. In a statement issued by Chair of the School Board, Mrs. Sonya Alleyne, appreciation was extended to the principal, secretary-treasurer, auxiliary staff, and partners who worked swiftly to develop and execute a plan that ensured the safety of the school environment.

“We also wish to assure all that the health and welfare of our school community remain paramount,” the statement said.

Mrs. Alleyne also thanked parents, teaching staff, and especially students for their patience and understanding during the transition to online learning. She noted that a strategy has since been implemented to help prevent similar occurrences in the future.

“We deeply appreciate all who have shown interest in the health and safety of our school and who offered assistance and advice as we navigated these waters,” she said.

Special thanks were also extended to the Minister of Education, the Ministry of Health, the teachers’ unions, the teaching and non-teaching staff—particularly the Health and Safety Committee—as well as corporate Barbados and other stakeholders who responded at short notice to support the school’s reopening.
