Diana “Didi” Clarke, renowned for her passion for equestrian teaching, unwavering commitment to coaching, and 50 years of dedicated service, has been awarded the 2025 Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) Gender Equality Commission’s Esther Maynard Icon of the Year Award.

During the annual awards ceremony recently at the BOA headquarters in Wildey, Clarke emerged as the top nominee and recipient from a distinguished list that included Lady Cheryl Forde (aquatics) and Monica Cumberbatch (hockey).

One of her students, Stacey Alvarez, read Clarke’s biography, which highlighted her great love of horses. She was also described as a long-time servant of the sport, who takes pride in seeing many of her students go on to successfully represent Barbados at national, regional, and international competitions.

“Those who know ‘Di’ have often heard her say that the biggest reward is seeing her students develop into mature and well-rounded citizens. She holds firmly onto her core values, which she expects from her students and often has to teach to the modern-day child,”Alvarez said. (ML)
