The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a Small Craft and High Surf Warning for the island, citing strong winds and rough sea conditions along the northern, eastern, and southern coastlines.

These hazardous conditions are expected to persist throughout the week, posing risks to marine activities, property, and roadways near the shoreline.

According to the advisory, an Atlantic high-pressure system is generating sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots, contributing to moderate to rough seas with swells ranging from 2.5 to 3 meters. The peak swell activity is anticipated on Thursday, April 3, and Friday, April 4, 2025, with heights exceeding 3 meters in some areas.

Authorities warn that these conditions could lead to dangerous open-water swells, increasing the risk of injury or loss of life for marine operators and beachgoers. Additionally, overtopping waves may cause damage to coastal property and roads, while beach erosion is expected, particularly along cliffside areas during high tide.

A small craft warning is issued when sustained winds of 25 to 33 knots or sea swells greater than 3 meters (10 feet) are forecast within the next 36 hours. Meanwhile, a high surf warning is declared when breaking waves pose a significant threat to life and property.

The advisory was issued at noon on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 and will be updated at noon on Thursday, April 3, 2025, unless conditions warrant.
