The Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) is proceeding with protest action to press for the reinstatement of a term’s leave for members.

President Rudy Lovell said the two-day sickout, scheduled for Thursday and Friday was still on, and urged teachers who supported the restoration of term’s leave to pre-2014 levels, to join “this demonstration of solidarity”.

Meanwhile, Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer- Bradshaw said all schools would be opened today, but if there are not enough teachers to supervise, they would be closed as a safety measure.

The BUT was in talks with the Ministry of Education regarding the term’s leave and at the last annual conference, warned action would be taken if it was not restored.
