Scores of supporters of Barbados Labour Party’s St James North heir apparent Chad Blackman played the waiting game outside the Gordon Greenidge Primary School this morning.
In steamy hot conditions from around 11 a.m. a smiling Blackman and scores of placard-bearing supporters patiently waited outside the premises of the Rock Dundo, St James school, to complete the nomination process for the May 21 by-election.
Campaign manager, Deputy Prime Minister, Santia Bradshaw used the waiting time to gather the troops, all wearing the political party’s traditional red colours.
Blackman, preparing for his first time at the polls after the resignation of former long-standing MP Edmund Hinkson, walked in confidently to conduct the nomination process.
Along with Bradshaw, other BLP stalwarts including President of the Senate, The Most Honourable Reginald Farley; St Thomas MP, Cynthia Forde and St Philip West MP Kay McConney also came to support Blackman’s cause.
Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley arrived a few minutes later to join Blackman’s entourage along with ministers Adrian Forde, Kirk Humphrey and Ryan Straughn.
Last night, it was announced that Blackman had tendered his resignation as a Senator and Minister of Educational Transformation during the official opening and blessing of the constituency office. Sandra Husbands will act in his stead. (BA)
