Barbadian Matthew Forde smashed the joint-fastest half-century in One-Day International history today.
Batting at number 8, the 23-year-old completed his half-century off just 16 balls for West Indies against Ireland at Clontarf in Dublin.
The former Combermere student dominated the Ireland attack right from the start, smacking two fours and eight sixes as he made 58 runs off 19 balls.
Batting first, West Indies had a rough start with both their openers – Brandon King (8) and Evin Lewis (20) — departing early.
However, Keacy Carty played a vital knock, scoring 103, that set the momentum for the visitors. Captain Shai Hope made 49, but West Indies needed a strong finish, and that’s exactly what Forde delivered to lift the score to 352-8 off the 50 overs.
The match ended in a no-decision and was called off around 5:20 p.m. Rain, which started during the break, persisted throughout the afternoon.
Ireland lead the series 1-0. (PS)
Beat that Ball, man.
