Expect a new senator to be announced shortly to take the place of the just elected Member of Parliament for St James North, Chad Blackman.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley was tightlipped on the possible replacement but said she expected to be back before President of Barbados The Most Honourable Dame Sandra Mason at State House soon for that process.

She told reporters during the double swearing-in of Blackman as MP and back to his role of Minister of Educational Transformation, that she was not ready to say who would be appointed.

“We will be seeing you soon again as we now have a vacancy in the Senate, and therefore, I suspect within a matter of days we will have cause to return to complete the process,” Mottley told the President after Blackman’s swearing in.

Blackman was appointed to the Senate and made a minister in January 2024. (AC)
