The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a flash flood watch for the Barbados due to a tropical wave affecting the island today.

The system, which has already delivered just under an inch of rain, is forecast to peak between late morning and afternoon, with improvements expected around 6 p.m. today.

Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are anticipated, along with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Officials warn of a medium possibility of significant flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Potential impacts include runoff from higher elevations, soil erosion, water pooling on roads and fields, and debris being carried by fast-moving water.

A flash flood watch indicates that flooding is possible within a short period of time, typically less than six hours. While it does not guarantee flooding, authorities are advising the public to be alert and prepared.

The watch will remain in effect until 6 p.m. or may be lifted earlier if conditions improve. (BMS)
