Parents and guardians are being encouraged to have their children’s vision checked between the ages of three and five.
In a statement issued today, the Ministry of Health and Wellness said routine eye screening to detect visual problems at an early stage is available at four polyclinics – Branford Taitt, Black Rock; Eunice Gibson, Warrens; Winston Scott, Jemmotts Lane, all in St Michael; and Randal Phillips, Oistins, Christ Church.
Officials noted that visual acuity, or sharpness of vision, should be tested once a child can identify images on an eye chart. They advised parents to ensure the screening is done within the recommended age range.
Appointments can be made by contacting any of the listed polyclinics, the Ministry said, adding that a child’s national identification number or card should be provided at the time of booking.
