At 11 a.m. today, Tropical Storm Erin was located near 16.4N 49.7W or 1,095 km (680 miles) northeast of Barbados.

This system is expected to pass north of the region over the weekend. The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) continues to closely monitor the progress of this system.

Tropical Storm Erin continues to track westward with a turn to the west-northwest tonight. Overnight and early this morning, satellite imagery showed that the system was better organized.

On the current trajectory, the system is still expected to move north of the Lesser Antilles sometime over the weekend. No direct impacts from this system are expected to affect Barbados. However, wind speeds should significantly lighten as the system passes north of the region.

Light winds and daytime heating are forecast to generate late morning/early afternoon localized shower activity across some districts from today and into the weekend. Additionally, light winds and warm temperatures may make conditions feel uncomfortable.

As Erin moves to the north of the region, wind directions are forecast to change to southerly and south-westerly, aggravating marine conditions along western and southern coastlines of Barbados.

Beachgoers and mariners are advised to be aware of choppy sea conditions on western and southern coastlines from tomorrow and into the weekend.

The public is encouraged to monitor the daily weather forecast issued by the BMS and follow any recommendations from the DEM. Beachgoers are reminded to follow the advice of NCC lifeguards. (BMS)
