The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) is keeping a close watch on a tropical wave currently located near 31W, approximately 3,000 km east of Barbados.

According to the BMS, this system is expected to affect Barbados and parts of the Eastern Caribbean from Thursday into Friday.

There are no watches or warnings in effect for Barbados at this time.

Most of the convective activity associated with the tropical wave is forecast to remain north of Barbados. Residents may experience a reduction in wind speeds during its passage.

Warm temperatures and light winds could trigger localized showers across some areas of the island. High humidity combined with warm daytime temperatures may also make conditions uncomfortable.

The tropical wave is linked to a broad circulation within the monsoon trough. Environmental conditions are currently only marginally favourable for development as the system moves west across the central tropical Atlantic. Meteorological models show some variability in projections as the system approaches the Eastern Caribbean.

This information statement was issued at 12 noon today and will be updated at 12 noon tomorrow.
