Barbados Royals kept their play-off hopes alive by recording their first victory of this year’s Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League campaign, beating defending champions St Lucia Kings by 27 runs yesterday at Kensington Oval.

Opener Brandon King once again top scored for the hosts with 42, while captain Rovman Powell produced a blistering unbeaten 41 from just 17 deliveries to help the Royals post 191-5 from their 20 overs.

In reply, the Kings were restricted to 164-9 at the close, with Ramon Simmons claiming three for 28 and Daniel Sams three for 31.

The Royals endured another sluggish power play, managing only 31 runs while losing Quinton de Kock for one to Khary Pierre in the third over.
