The Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) celebrates a major milestone  –  30 years of service, advocacy, and empowerment! Since its founding on October 25, 1995, BARP has grown into one of Barbados’ largest and most respected non-governmental organisations, proudly representing over 22,000 members aged 40 and above.

From its inception, BARP has been a strong voice for seniors, championing independence, dignity, and lifelong purpose. Over the years, it has expanded its impact through powerful initiatives such as the BARP Charitable Trust, which supports vulnerable elderly persons and funds postgraduate research in ageing, and the new Legacy Foundation – BARP Business Centre, where members learn digital skills and confidently navigate today’s online world.

BARP continues to deliver real, everyday value through its Benefits and Discounts Programme, offering savings of up to 25 per cent at more than 250 businesses islandwide, and through partnerships like the Certified Taxi Service with Lyndhurst Executive Cars, ensuring members travel safely and affordably.

As part of its 30th anniversary celebration, BARP will host a series of unforgettable events, from the sold-out Freedom Bus Ride and the elegant Anniversary Gala at the Hilton, to the island-wide Bringin’ It Home with BARP concert series featuring Biggie Irie, Red Plastic Bag, and the Royal Barbados Police Band.

Read all about BARP’s journey and vision in the October 19 Sunday Sun, a special feature honouring the people, partners, and programmes that continue to empower generations.
