Barbados’ senior women’s football team suffered a 13-0 thrashing in their second CONCACAF qualifier at the hands of El Salvador on Sunday at the Estadio Nacional Las Delicias in Santa Tecla, El Salvador.

Recalled goalkeeper Kamillah Burke was kept busy throughout as El Salvador finished with 57 shots, 31 on target.

Wide forwards Danielle Fuentes and captain Brenda Cerén led the way in the opening 45 minutes, each scoring a brace by halftime, while Danya Gutiérrez and Victoria Meza made it 6-0 at the break.

Gomez netted the seventh goal in the 54th minute, and Danya Gutiérrez and substitute Jasmine Dybala scored two goals in four minutes to make it 9-0 in the 64th.

The rout continued in the 73rd as the skipper completed her hat-trick. Substitute Jackeline Velásquez, who came on in the 56th minute, contributed a second-half brace with goals in the 79th and 90+4th minutes. Prior to that, Fuentes registered her third and final goal in the 87th minute.

That result, the third-worst of this CONCACAF qualifying period after Jamaica’s 18-0 drubbing of Dominica and Mexico’s 14-0 humbling of St Vincent, leaves the Lady Tridents bottom of Group F.

Barbados, who previously lost 5-0 to Trinidad last November, have no points after two matches, with a goal difference of -18.

Up next is Honduras during April’s international window, while table-toppers El Salvador, with six points from two matches, face Trinidad and Tobago next. (JC)
