A man was undergoing treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) after being shot at Long Gap, St Michael, early this morning.

Police say two men were walking along the road, when they were approached by a group of people clad in dark clothing, wearing masks and brandishing a firearm.

They allegedly demanded valuables from the two men and discharged a gunshot, injuring one of them. He was transported to the QEH by private vehicle.

Police Operations Control received a report around 3:45 a.m.

One resident who didn’t want to be named, said she was asleep and heard a bang just after 3 a.m. Her dog soon began to bark furiously and she thought the noise was from a big truck in the area, making its usual commute around that time. The woman said she went back to sleep and awoke after 6 a.m. to find police stationed at the bottom of the gap.

Investigations are continuing and anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any information that may assist, is asked to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1800-8477, Police Emergency at 211 or the District ‘A’ Police Station at 430-7242 or 430-7270. (Nation News Desk)
