After bringing almost 60 pounds of marijuana into Barbados over the weekend, a Canadian national will be sentenced next week.

Ronald George Collins, 61, from Unit 102, 84 Oakville, London, Ontario, confessed before Magistrate Douglas Frederick on Wednesday to the possession, trafficking, intent to supply and importation of 26.30 kilogrammes on March 27. Collins was appearing in the District “B” Magistrates’ Court at the Eric Holder Jr Municipal Complex, St Joseph.
The prosecutor, Constable Tammisha Knight, informed the court that the visitor arrived in Barbados on a flight from Canada just after 2 p.m. on March 27. He cleared immigration and retrieved his two suitcases, before proceeding to customs. His luggage was searched and 54 vacuum sealed packages of cannabis were found in them.
When he was interviewed by police, Collins admitted knowing about the drugs, which carried an estimated street value of $210 400.
The former chef, who now survives on disability benefits, was represented by attorney Neville Reid. He returns to court on April 9 for sentencing and will continue on remand at Dodds Prison until then. (SD)
