Barbadian track cyclist Arielle Greaves has advanced to the final of the Junior Women’s Keirin at the 2026 Junior Pan American Track Cycling Championships in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico.
In the lead-up to the final day, Greaves spoke to Spanish media. “Right now, I am a little bit nervous for the Keirin, but hopefully I get to the final. I’m very proud of my performance. I have broken my two national records from last year, and I’m really proud of myself and how far I have come.”
“I’m proud of myself that I could come to represent my country at this level because there are no other track cyclists, especially female track cyclists.”
Greaves was in action this morning on the final day of the competition and, after crossing the line in 11.955 seconds, advanced to the Final of the Keirin after an impressive 2nd-place finish in Heat 1. Colombian Manuela Loazia Zabala, who has been dominating in the other events, shot off in the distance to win in 11:402.
Hometown rider Nicole Jimenez Rochin finished third in 0.722 off the lead. Ecuadorian Mahonly Abril Torres was fourth, and Chilean Yoelynne Barraza Munoz was fifth. The 18-year-old now moves one step closer to the medals, as she prepares to line up against the top junior riders in the PanAmerican region.
She will face Zabala. Colombian Danna Valentina Mertinez Mahcha, Mexicans Fernanda Trujillo Ruiz and Rochin and Ecuadorian Genesis Briceno Intriago. (SW)
