Matthews returns to top spots for allrounders in ICC Women’s Rankings

A strong showing for the West Indies in their opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup has helped their dynamic captain Hayley Matthews overtake New Zealand counterpart Melie Kerr and regain her place at the top of the ICC Women’s T20I allrounder rankings.

Matthews played a superb innings of 48 and picked up the valuable wicket of former New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine as the Windies started their T20 World Cup campaign with an impressive seven-wicket triumph over the White Ferns at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton.

They have traveled to Leeds where they will play against Scotland in the second match on Thursday evening. The solid knock by Matthews last Saturday proved enough to see the West Indies captain move back to the premier position for T20I all-rounders.

Matthews also features prominently in the top rankings in all the women’s formats, confirming her status as the leading player in the game at the moment. She is at Number 4 in the batting in T20Is. In the One-Day Internationals she is second among allrounders behind Ash Gardner of Australia, third in bowling and ninth in batting.

West Indies will play their second T20 World Cup match on Thursday against Scotland at Headingley in Leeds. The match will be played under floodlights and bowls off at 6:30pm local time (1:30pm Barbados time).  (PS)
