The Central Bank of Barbados has issued a further update on delayed salary payments affecting some workers following the transition to the BiMPay system.
The Bank said that of approximately 27,366 salary payments for central government, the Barbados Revenue Authority and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, 27,206 have now been paid. It added that most workers in statutory corporations have also received their salaries.
The Central Bank apologised to those still awaiting payment, saying it recognises the financial and personal distress caused and that resolving outstanding payments remains a priority.
It said it is working closely with commercial banks, Government agencies and employers to correct account information that did not meet the required formatting standards for BiMPay processing.
The Bank explained that under the new system, payment files must contain valid account information before submission, as transactions are processed instantly. It said this represents a change from previous batch-based arrangements where manual corrections were possible during processing.
BiMPay remains operational and continues to process interbank transactions while payroll corrections are completed, the Bank added.
It also confirmed that Government pensions are being processed today, June 26, 2026.
Employees who have not yet been paid are being advised to liaise with their HR or finance departments to verify account details, as those departments are working directly with financial institutions.
The Central Bank further directed that affected individuals should not be charged for correcting account formatting issues and that penalty fees applied due to missed salary payments should be reversed where necessary.
The Bank said it will continue to provide updates as the situation develops, adding that efforts are ongoing to resolve all outstanding payments urgently. (PR)
