Former CLICO boss Leroy Parris no longer has a case to answer.
Justice Michelle Weekes handed down that decision in Supreme Court No. 8 today, after reviewing the evidence and submissions by attorneys on either side.
The judge determined that Magistrate Manila Renee’s decision to submit Parris’ matters to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for him to stand trial should be quashed. Secondly, an order was made prohibiting the Magistrate from handing over any copies of the documents to the Registrar or DPP, and thirdly, an injunction was put in place preventing the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions from indicting Parris in the future. The judge also found that the matter was unconstitutional and a breach of the rules of natural justice.
A date for hearing with regard to damages and costs will be on or before December 31, 2026.
