BETCUL celebrates 60 years of service

What began in 1965 as a simple idea among ten Cable & Wireless employees has grown into six decades of service, growth and commitment to Barbadians.

On April 6, 1965, Rudolph Darlington Marshall, Bernard King, Colbourne Walters, Roger Yarde, Trevor Alleyne, Mark McConney, Neville Bayley, Victor Reid, Courtney Bramao and Jean Alleyne came together to establish a Savings Society. More than a year later, on September 16, 1966, it achieved formal credit-union status as the Cable & Wireless Co-operative Credit Union, with 75 registered members and $75 000 in share capital.

Today, BET Co-operative Credit Union Limited stands as an established Barbadian financial institution, having grown beyond its original employee base while remaining rooted in the cooperative principle of people helping people. From its current headquarters in Belleville, to its expanding membership and range of financial services, BETCUL continues to place its members at the centre of what it does. Its commitment to excellent service is underpinned by something less easily measured – personal relationships and an understanding of the people behind the accounts.

As BETCUL celebrates 60 years, its story is ultimately one of people, partnership and a commitment to helping members achieve their financial goals. (DG)
