Enmore to undergo $390 million rehabilitation project

A number of departments and outpatient clinics at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) have been temporarily relocated to accommodate the expansion of the Enmore site.

The $390 million project will add approximately 19 320 square metres of new medical and administrative facilities with the aim of modernising the hospital operations.

Director of Engineering Services at QEH, Paula Agbowu, explained that in order to enable the construction and rehabilitation of the complex and the refurbishment of others within the hospital complex, 23 different departments, including outpatient clinics, have been moved to other facilities.

“Phlebotomy, for those that are not familiar with the terminology, is where our blood-taking is done for our patients that require blood works to be done. Our EEG are mostly associated with brain activity works so some of our epilepsy patients and those requiring sleep studies are the ones that will be relocated to our Coconut Walk complex,” she explained.

Other patient-facing departments such as the ENT department, neurology, paediatric and dermatology have been relocated to George Street, Belleville, between 7th and 8th Avenue.

The rehabilitation department will be located at Wildey, St Michael, opposite the Edgar Cochrane Polyclinic.

“The Enmore redevelopment project is estimated to be 32 to 42 months, which is about three and a half years and so this relocation, while temporary, is still for quite a period of time. We have tried to make sure that the relocations are in close proximity to the hospital and on bus routes that would make it easy for our patients to get to,” she said. (JRN)
