The University of the West Indies (UWI) Global Campus has been granted institutional re-accreditation by the Barbados Accreditation Council for the period 2026-2032, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining established standards and fostering a culture of quality across its educational operations.
The Certificate of Institutional Accreditation was formally presented on Wednesday, at the council’s Phoenix Centre headquarters in George Street, St Michael.
Dr Francis Severin, principal and provice chancellor of the UWI Global Campus, accepted the certificate.
The announcement came in a press release which said that as Barbados’ national authority for quality assurance in postsecondary and tertiary education, the council played an important role in safeguarding the integrity of educational provision and promoting accountability among institutions.
Standards
Through accreditation, the council works to ensure that providers uphold established standards and remain focused on delivering quality education. The reaccreditation of the UWI Global Campus reflects the importance of this work and the role of institutions in sustaining public confidence in tertiary education.
“With accreditation, institutions are called on to examine their performance, look at the various weaknesses that may be therein and address them by making improvements and enhancements as part of their everyday work.
“Our team recognised this commitment at the Global Campus.
We saw a strong culture of quality and a willingness to keep improving, and it was evident throughout the process,” said Lisa Gale, executive director of the council.
Severin also expressed appreciation for the work and dedication of the Accreditation Council’s quality assurance process and the Global Campus team throughout the evaluation and accreditation processes and expressed optimism about continued collaboration.
