The Barbados Community College (BCC) held dialogue with parents after altercations involving students on its Eyrie, Howell’s Cross Road campus around lunchtime today.
Security reports indicate no one was seriously injured, though at least one student suffered a grated knee in a fall.
Principal Annette Alleyne said the College has already engaged some of the parents of the students involved. She stressed that a “whole of country” approach is needed to address violence in society, which she said spills into educational institutions.
“We’re recognising that several of the issues that institutions such as the BCC and the others experience are not generated here,” Alleyne said in a statement, adding that the institution remains generally safe, with security-led staff taking all reasonable measures to protect everyone on campus.
The administration thanked security and other staff who acted quickly to break up the altercations. (BA)
