Minister ‘won’t be rushed’

Minister of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security Dr Shantal Munro-Knight is adamant she will not be “pushed or rushed” into making quick decisions on issues affecting the sector.

“When I talk about agriculture and my vision, there are some things that we have to be able to transform around, but that will take time because there are systemic and embedded challenges. I am not going to present a vision or a frame to you that suggests that we are going to get there quickly, that everything will have a quick response. That will not be true.

“I’m not going to be rushed or pushed into making big, sweeping statements about what it is that we can do and how it is that we will be able to transform. I will take a datadriven approach, because that’s who I am. I believe fundamentally that’s what we need if we’re going to have sustainable solutions for the long term,” she said.

She was addressing last Saturday’s Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) annual general meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St Michael.
