SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY Michael Carrington last night dismissed what he said were media reports alleging he had “carried away money”, declaring he had done “nothing to be ashamed of”.

Addressing a meeting of the St Michael West constituency branch of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) at St Leonard’s Boys’ Secondary School, the Queen’s Counsel said the well-publicised allegations had “traumatised” his family, “endangered” his professional career as a lawyer and might have “damaged” his reputation but, based on reaction from his constituents, he was not worried about his prospects as an MP.

In his first public move to get major issues impacting on him professionally “off my chest”, Carrington also signalled to his St Michael West constituents that he was not one of the “few bad apples” president of the Barbados Bar Association Tariq Khan had said in February needed to be “weeded out”.

“If you’re talking about bad apples and you know who the bad apples are, weed them out,” he told the meeting. (TY)
