Riley or Garner?

There is an air of anticipation ahead of today’s Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) elections, highlighted by a face-off for the presidency between incumbent Conde Riley and his predecessor Joel Garner.

Amid a full slate of candidates for all of the positions up for grabs at the 17th special meeting of members which convenes at Kensington Oval at 5:45 p.m., most of the hype surrounds the battle between Riley and Garner.

Riley, a retired investment banker, was elected as president in 2017 after Garner opted not to seek a sixth successive two-year term because of his appointment as West Indies team manager.

The 66-year-old Riley has defended his stewardship by pointing to the number of Barbadians wearing West Indies colours, the success of the national junior teams and the resolving of two long-standing issues that are likely to increase the BCA’s revenues. (HG)
