Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) president Conde Riley is defending the body’s half-million dollar entertainment bill for its last financial year and says the board of directors has nothing to be ashamed of with regard to the management of cricket in Barbados.
Responding to former president Joel Garner’s assertion that it was clear to see what the board’s priorities were, given that it incurred entertainment expenses of $564 997 for the year ended March 31, 2019, Riley said yesterday the figure could be justified given the unprecedented number of days of regional and international cricket Barbados hosted.
In a statement to THE NATION, Riley said the BCA continued to record significant success both on and off the field and over the past two years its growth trajectory had been solidified through the prudent planning and management of our resources, all for the benefit of Barbados’ cricket.
“Despite recent contrary comments surrounding the association’s entertainment expenditure over the past financial year, such statements in fact draw attention to the outstanding work the association has rendered over the period. The last year saw the BCA host over 65 days of international and first-class cricket at Kensington Oval, a figure previously unmatched,” Riley said. (HG)
