Regional focus on maritime security

THE REGIONAL SECURITY SYSTEM (RSS) is emphasising regional cooperation in order to effectively police the Caribbean Sea.

Executive director of the RSS, Grantley Watson, said with the emergence of maritime security threats as well as the growing complexities of traditional security threats, which were presently confronting the RSS, it required a “strategic shift from the current maritime security posture”.

He made the comments yesterday during the closing ceremony for the RSS basic seamanship course at Paragon, Christ Church.

Nineteen police and coast guard officers completed the five-week course which was organised by the RSS and funded by the United States Embassy, Barbados. (MB)
