INCREASED INCIDENTS of illegal dumping will be a certain consequence of the tipping fee, which is soon to come into effect.
The concern was voiced by Brinley Selliah, and echoed by several members of the audience at a town hall meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre last night. Representatives from the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA), the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Health were on hand to field questions and shed some light on the need for the fee.
Selliah, a retiree, made the assertion after he was told by the panel that house owners like him, who just have small amounts of waste to dispose, will also be charged the $25 per tonne or part therefore at the Sustainable Recycling Barbados Ltd. at Vaucluse, St Thomas.
