World triple crown masters backstroke champion Nicky Neckles is hoping to inspire a next generation of swimmers to even greater success on the world stage.
That was the word from Barbados’ most decorated male swimmer after he returned from South Korea yesterday following his outstanding performances at the FINA World Masters Championships where he snatched the crowns and records in the 200, 100 and 50 metres backstroke.
Not even over 15 hours of flying could erase the broad smile on Neckles’ face when he exited the arrivals hall to be mobbed by members of the swimming fraternity holding a banner outlining his victories and record times and waving Barbados Flags.Â
Among the group was former Olympic bronze medallist Obadele Thompson, president of the Barbados Aquatic Sports Association, Tony Selby, former world masters champion Angus Edghill, Chris Gibbs and dad Trevor Neckles. (KB)
