Tyrell, Andrea come out on top

Tyrell Forde mastered the men’s physique and Andrea Cumberbatch ruled the bikini fitness stage, but it was a low-keyed night at the 2019 national championships at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Conference Centre over the weekend.

On a night of few sparks with the nationals devalued by the absence of its past champions who have moved on to the pro ranks, the men’s physique competition held most of the sway.

There was no fairy-tale return for the stylish Ryan Haynes but he could feel pleased with an impressive second behind Forde in the division for entrants over 176 centimetres in height. The dreadlocked Haynes, representing First Fitness Gym, marked his comeback with the trademark condition that has landed him national titles.

Forde, a former CARIFTA Games track and field athlete, could not match Haynes for condition, but was way ahead in the size department with huge shoulders and upper torso dominance. (MK)
