NEW PRAEDIAL LARCENY legislation will soon be before Parliament and, once passed, will give farmers more protection.

Minister of Agriculture Dr David Estwick said the legislation, which is expected to better deal with deficiencies seen in the tracing of agricultural produce, has been approved by Cabinet and is expected to come up for debate at the next session of the House of Assembly.

Built into the legislation will be provision for the introduction of agricultural inspectors to manage the movement and sale of agricultural products.

Speaking at the launch of the two-day Barbados National Agricultural Conference 2015 at Savannah Hotel, Estwick said: “The [agricultural] inspectors will have the authority to engage in any sector or area where agricultural produce is being sold, to make sure that under request the individual can show registration and certification documentation.”
