THE START OF RELIEF for residents of White Hill and Mount All in St Andrew is only weeks away.

Very reliable sources at the Ministry of Transport and Works revealed yesterday that within two weeks Cabinet will be asked to decide on which of three options it will authorise to correct major access problems caused by a landslide last November.

According to the source, Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley commissioned a report on possible options for fixing the more than 50 metres of collapsed hillside road that has left nearly 100 households travelling long distances for services in Hillaby.

The report, done by the ministry’s deputy chief technical officer Philip Tudor, offers as Option One the construction of a series of terraced gabions from deep into the gully all the way up to the level of the original road at a cost of $4.6 million. This would form the foundation of the rebuilt road.  (RRM)
