Pilots serve notice

FED-UP LIAT PILOTS have taken to public ads to vent about work conditions and assure the public that the airline’s tardiness is not their fault but rather LIAT pushing them towards industrial action.

But in a quick response, LIAT said the ad smacks of planned industrial action to disrupt the Easter period and that could push the airline into closing.

Chief executive officer David Evans in a statement said should there be significant disruption, the resulting financial crunch would mean that salary payments would be further delayed, and the airline would be unable to meet the demands of its creditors and it would be “in a position of no return, leading to a shutdown of the airline”.

In an advertisement that appears in this publication, Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association (LIALPA) revealed that they were stressed because of poor working conditions and unauthorised deductions and that might impact the flights. (AC)
