THREE WEEKS BEFORE the start of the CARIFTA Swimming Championships at Easter, one of Barbados’ key swimmers, Christian Selby, is an uncertain starter.
Selby and boys’ captain Alex Sobers are the only two competitors on the 15 to 17 age group but Selby is recovering from an injury and it is hoped he will be fully healed in time for the April 4 to 9 championships at the Aquatic Centre, Wildey.
Selby (right), a former CARIFTA medallist, is entered in the freestyle and butterfly events in the 30th edition of the championships which will see the Barbadians facing strong competition from Aruba, Trinidad, Guadeloupe and Martinique.
Sobers told NATION SPORT he will seek to lead from the front, especially in his pet 200m and 400m freestyle events.
“I captured medals in those events in Jamaica and Aruba and I am hoping to do so once again on home soil,” said Sobers.
Sobers is expecting great things from the other team members, especially Nkosi Dunwoody in the 11-12 age group. (EZS)
