Nzinga pulled off the heist of the year on Emancipation Day yesterday when she captured the $103 350 purse and trophy in the 80th Massy United Insurance Barbados Derby at the Garrison Savannah at the huge odds of 21-1.
The three-year-old filly, a daughter of Janak out of the mare Mrs. B, and the property of Some Guys and a Gal, stormed home in a time of 211.3 under red-hot apprentice N’Rico Prescod.
That win was the pinnacle win in the career of 20-year-old Prescod, a former student of The St Michael School, and gave him a quadruple on Massy United Insurance Limited Raceday.(LY)
