GOVERNMENT HAS “nothing to show” after inflicting a year and a half of “mayhem and suffering” on Barbadians.
Opposition Leader Mia Mottley yesterday warned that the Freundel Stuart administration was actually “twice as worse” off despite borrowing $450 million “to prop up the reserves”, and dismissed Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler’s assertion that its finances and the economy were recovering.
Responding to Sinckler’s presentation of the 2015/2016 Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure yesterday in the House of Assembly, Mottley said while the minister was boasting about the “crevice” of light he was seeing, Government’s debt was “literally choking out every ounce of space we have to stabilise, trigger growth, or to protect the vulnerable in this country”, while the absence of an investment grade credit rating had increased the “pain”.
“The minister of finance spoke as if his measures have been a success. Well, he is entitled to look through rose-tinted glasses but we have to deal with the reality,” she said. (SC)
