Holder: Women must be on co-op boards

LONG-STANDING CREDIT UNIONIST Lynette Holder wants women to be guaranteed places on the governor board for credit unions.

The management specialist is prepared to push if necessary for a change in the law to guarantee the presence of women.

Holder made her position known as credit unions across the island prepare to hold annual general meetings to choose delegates to contest positions on the board of the umbrella Barbados Co-operative Credit Union League (BCCUL) in October.

Reiterating her objection to the composition of its present all-male, nine-member board, Holder who is also CEO of the Barbados Small Business Association, said the City of Bridgetown Credit Union, where she serves as a director, had seen the value of women and young brains serving at the highest levels of the 54 000-strong body.
