MINISTER OF FINANCE Chris Sinckler has told the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) “good things will come to those who wait”.

Responding to concerns about the length of time it was taking for the BHTA to receive duty-free concessions, Sinckler said the law had been proclaimed this year and the process would be completed soon.

He also responded to the view that Sandals Barbados Resort was already enjoying concessions while the rest of the hotel sector waited, noting that the Sandals process had begun two years ago.

The finance minister said the Sandals deal was separate to the BHTA but assured other hoteliers would not have to wait long.

During the BHTA’s first quarterly general meeting today, new chairman Sunil Chatrani lamented the time it was taking for the concessions to be put into place.

He said tourism players had been waiting for 17 months and they were appealing to all relevant parties for relief. (CA)
